Reasons for Cardiac (Heart) Workup

Does your dog have any of the following signs?
- Heart murmur on physical examination
- Coughing
- Syncope – Fainting, weakness
- Exercise intolerance
- Weight loss, muscle wasting
- History of seizure
- Pallor
- Irregular heartbeat – Too fast, too slow, or irregular rate.
Annual or biannual testing is indicated for the following breeds:
- Doberman Pinscher
- Boxers
- Bulldogs
- Any older small breed dogs.
Does your cat have any of the following signs?
- Heart murmur on physical examination
- Panting
- Weakness
- Weight loss, muscle wasting
- Difficulty breathing
- Sudden onset of hind leg paralysis & pain
- Exercise intolerance

DID YOU KNOW?
- -40% of cats with no audible heart murmur DO in fact have underlying heart disease
- - Unlike dogs and humans, cat will RARELY present with gradual signs of decline due to heart disease. Their illness progresses quietly, but their sickness presents VERY SUDDEN in onset.
- - Male cats are more likely to acquire heart disease than females, and Ragdolls, and Main Coons are more likely to acquire heart disease than any other feline breed.
- -Cats with severe heart disease RARELY show any clinical signs until a sudden onset of heart related illness including: breathing difficulty, collapse, pain in back legs due to blood clots.
